Obituary for Eric Gundersen
Eric Gundersen, a beloved father, fiancé, and friend, passed away peacefully in Manteca, California, on January 4, 2025. He was 63 years old.
Born on November 18, 1961, in Summit, New Jersey, Eric was the son of Irving P. and Joan Gundersen. He grew up in Warren, New Jersey, and later lived in Scotch Plains and Bridgewater before returning to Warren. About six years ago, Eric embarked on a new chapter, moving to Manteca, California, where he spent his final years.
Eric devoted his entire career to appliance repair, spending over 45 years in the trade. He worked for many years with PSE&G, earning a reputation for his skill, dedication, and professionalism before retiring.
A man of many interests and a love for life’s simple pleasures, Eric had a unique and cherished hobby of collecting Jack Daniel’s bottles. His collection, which could fill an entire room, was a testament to his unique personality and appreciation for the little things in life. He was also a devoted music lover, particularly enjoying attending Rush concerts.
Eric’s creativity shone through his passion for photography. He loved capturing landscapes and would spend hours refining his photos, bringing his artistic vision to life.
Eric enjoyed playing video games, a passion he shared with his four boys, which added to his relaxed and easy-going nature.
Eric was an avid traveler and made many wonderful memories on trips with his family to California, Vermont, and other destinations. He also loved fishing and spent countless days on the water with his friends, enjoying the peace and camaraderie the sport offered. Above all, Eric was easy-going and loved relaxing in the company of family and friends.
Eric had a deep love for animals, especially his cat Jitterbug, who brought him immense joy and companionship.
He is survived by his loving fiancée, Kathy Marshall; his four cherished children, Robert, Jonathan, Nicholas, and Christopher and his wife Allene; and his cousin, Gail Gundersen.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, New Jersey, on Monday, January 20, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., also at Higgins Home for Funerals. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains.
Eric will be remembered as a kind-hearted, creative, and easy-going soul who brought joy to those around him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, who will forever cherish the moments shared with him.
