Obituary of Marie Phyllis Galka

Marie Phyllis Galka, age 89, passed away on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at her home in Martinsville. Born in Morristown, she had lived in Far Hills and then Lafayette before moving to Martinsville in 1967. Marie was a bookkeeper for Concrete Industries in Denville before retiring in 1980. She was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church in Martinsville and a former member of the Lafayette Federated Church. Marie was an accomplished pianist and had played the organ at various churches over the years. She is predeceased by her husbands, Felix Markowski and Michael Galka and her daughter, Dianne Ferretti. Surviving are her children, Lee Markowski and his wife, Linda, Gary Markowski, Valerie Metzgar and her husband, Howard and Sandra Markowski, M.D.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 7, 2014 from 10-12:30 p.m. at Higgins Home For Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung followed by a 1:00 Mass of Resurrection at Blessed Sacrament Church, Martinsville. Interment will follow at Somerset Hills Memorial Park, Basking Ridge.
