Obituary of Kurt L. Ledebuhr
Kurt L. Ledebuhr, 77, passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at his home at
Brandywine Senior Living in Watchung, NJ.
Kurt was born February 16, 1937 in Chicago, IL. In 1960 he married his high school
sweetheart, Elaine Barbarek, also of Chicago. They began their lives together, raising a family
in suburban Chicago until 1970, when they moved to New Providence, NJ.
Kurt was a graduate of the University of Illinois, earning a Bachelor's degree in
Architecture. He spent his career working as an architect and engineer for the F.W.
Woolworth Company in Chicago and then New York City. Kurt was a proud graduate of the
U.S. Army Officer Candidate School, serving honorably as a Captain in the Illinois National
Guard. Kurt was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church and an active member
of the Old Guard in Summit, NJ.
He is preceded in death by Elaine, his loving and devoted wife of 42 years. Surviving
are two daughters, KyleAnn Ledebuhr of Basking Ridge, NJ, Karen Spohn and her husband
Evan Spohn of Sinking Spring, PA, Erich Ledebuhr and his wife Hilary Ledebuhr of Sudbury,
MA, and LTC Karl Ledebuhr and his wife Meghan Ledebuhr of Fort Leavenworth, KS. He was
blessed with five grandchildren, Jonathan and Gabriel Spohn, Kurt W. Ledebuhr and Henry
and Emma Ledebuhr. Also surviving are a brother, Fred Ledebuhr and his wife Evelyn
Ledebuhr of Elgin, IL, and a sister, Lois Iversen and her husband Arthur Iversen of Lady Lake,
FL.
Friends and family may attend a memorial service on Monday, November 10 at 4:00
PM at the United Methodist Church of Summit, 17 Kent Place Boulevard, Summit, NJ. In lieu
of flowers, donations may be made in recognition of Kurt's life to organizations that fight
Alzheimer's disease and dementia.
