Obituary of Sr. Maura Parker, R.S.M.

Sister Maura Parker, Sister of Mercy Sister Maura died peacefully on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at McAuley Hall Health Care Center in Watchung, NJ. Sister Maura was born in Moorestown, NJ. She was the daughter of the late Esther and Walter Parker. Sister Maura was a former student of Our Lady of Perpetual School Maple Shade and Camden Catholic High School. She entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1944 and began studies at Georgian Court College, Lakewood , NJ. She earned BA degree in Latin and later earned a MS degree in Library Science and a MA degree in Latin from Villanova University, PA. For more than 40 years she was on the faculty of Georgian Court College, teaching Classical Studies, Classical Mythology and Classical Civilization and was also appointed Chairperson of the Modern and Classical Languages Department. Sister Maura also taught in Mount Saint Mary Academy, Watchung and Cathedral High School, Trenton She retired to McAuley Hall Health Care Center and spent her years in prayer and gracious hospitality to all she met. She is survived by her dearly loved brother Robert Parker and sisters Rita Nawalinski and Margaret Deluca, several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews and Sisters of Mercy in the Mid-Atlantic Community. Visitation will take place at McAuley Hall Health Care Center, 1633 Highway 22, Watchung, NJ on Friday, November 21, 2014. Wake: 9:30 to 11:00 am, Welcome Home Service at 9:45 Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am.
