Nancy Henschel

Obituary of Nancy Marie Henschel

Nancy Marie Henschel died peacefully at home on Wednesday November 26, 2014. Born July 23, 1956 in Mineola NY, she was the daughter of the late John Henschel Jr. and Lilyan Marie (Dodge) Henschel. She is survived by a loving extended family of her mother; her brothers and sisters-in-law John (Jack) and Yasmin; James and Lois; Peter; Timothy and Michelle; her nieces and nephews Christopher, Theodore, Jessamyn, Alison, Joseph, Tyler and Maya; her grandniece Ava; her Aunt Dorothea Dodge and Uncle William Judge; her Dodge family cousins Lynn, Brian, Mary Katherine, Maria, James, Christine, Brendan, James Tyler, Megan, Edward, Nancy, Skye, James, Karen and Darren; her Henschel relatives; her dear friends Keith McHenry and Francine Miller, Amy Samelson, Jamela Stevens and Melissa Fisher; many other wonderful friends; and every person who shares her lifelong goals of equality, brotherhood, and peace. A graduate of Dover-Sherborn High School in Dover MA and Rutgers University in New Brunswick NJ with a Bachelor's degree in English, for many years Nancy lived and worked in New York City where she was employed by HSBC Bank as a Legal Assistant. Always devising a plan to move forward when faced with a personal challenge, Nancy also applied that same strategy to her community and her politics. She volunteered for several area organizations that advanced the social causes she believed in, including the New Jersey and New York Chapters of Citizen Action, the Castillo Theater, and the All Stars Project of New Jersey and New York. Nancy was an exceptional writer, a lover of the shore, music and live theater, and the solver of any crossword puzzle. She had a quick wit and could utter a quip that would never insult but would always be very funny. Nancy was a friend who always listened, and for those moments you were together, made you always feel that her sole interest and attention was only you. She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.
