Obituary of Vincent E. Dupre
Vincent E. Dupre, age 92, died on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at his home in Watchung. He was born and raised in Irvington and had lived in Union before moving to Watchung 30 years ago.
Mr. Dupre was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a Cryptographic Technician in the Signal Corps during World War II.
After the war, he joined the Township of Union Fire Department for over 30 years, serving as Chief for 10 years.
Chief Dupre belonged to many fire associations and was a devout communicant of St. Mary's- Stony Hill RC Church in Watchung.
Mr. Dupre is predeceased by his beloved wife of 53 years, Marion Gegenheimer Dupre.
Surviving are his son, Dennis Dupre and his wife Nancy; his daughters, Marie Noesner and her husband Robert; Dianne Chmielewski and her husband Gene; and Cecile Wein and her husband Jorg. He is also survived by his brothers, Paul Dupre and E. David Dupre as well as 12 grandchildren and 10 ½ great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will begin on Monday, October 29th at 9:00 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung followed by a 10:00 a.m. funeral Mass at St. Mary's -Stony Hill Church. Entombment will be at St. Mary's Stony Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm.
