Obituary of Laura C. Sharpe
Laura Christina Sharpe was, the youngest of four daughters born to Harvey and Roberta Studivant on December 26, 1921at Muhlenberg Hospital in Plainfield, NJ. She attended the Plainfield public schools and graduated from Plainfield High School. Following high school she graduated from a technical school for sewing and designing in New York City.
Laura grew up in Shiloh Baptist Church in Plainfield, with her family and participated in all the children and youth activities and events. Her family was very active and supportive of Shiloh. Laura's aunt Bell purchased one of the stain glassed windows on the west side of the sanctuary in the old Shiloh church.
Laura married the love of her life, Marshall A. Sharpe, and to that union three sons were born- Marshall Jr., Roger and Todd. She excelled as a wife and mother. Dad was the bread winner and mom was a home maker until us boys got older.
While at home, she was a seamstress for many in the community. Later she would work at the Curtain Factory in town, when she was called. Within the first year that Sears opened on Rt. 22, Laura started working there on a part-time basis. That part-time job lasted over thirty years. In her time at Sears, she received numerous awards and commendations for her meritous service.
Thru the years, Mom has participated in various community activities. She was the Den mother of Roger's Cub Scout Pack. They would meet in the basement of her home. She also served many years in the American Legion Women's Auxiliary as well as with the local NAACP. She loved to travel, so she joined the Kick-Off Travel Club. If you said, "let's," Laura said "go."
Her involvement as a member of Shiloh Baptist Church was one of being faithful and fruitful. She has served in the Missionary Society, she was a long time Sunday School teacher, attended Bible study regularly, and served in the Women's Fellowship. Laura has been a delegate to the Progressive National Baptist Convention and traveled to Israel with Pastor Henry and the Shiloh delegation. Mom really cherished the framed award of recognition given to her by Pastor Jerald Thomas, on her 90th birthday.
Lastly, the love and the joy of Laura Sharpe's life were her three grandchildren. She showered them with love, gifts and affection all the time.
Laura Sharpe went home to live with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, February
21,2015. She was, preceded in passing by her mother and father, her sisters- Marie Pearl, and Roberta, her husband and her son Roger. She leaves to cherish her blessed life, her two sons- Marshall {Ora) of San Diego, and Todd (Dana) of South Plainfield, her grandsons, Mark and Matthew of San Diego, and granddaughter- Domonique of South Plainfield, and great grandsons- Jayden and Josiah of San Diego.
