Obituary of Stanley Thomas Stanley
Stanley Thomas Stanley passed away on October 30, 2012 at Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ and entered into eternal rest in heaven. He was born in Bayonne, NJ residing there for many years, moving to Plainfield where he lived for the past 49 years.
He served his country in the United States Navy as a Navy medic. He was a 1949 graduate of Georgetown University where he remains a contributing alumnus.
In 1954 he married his "one and only" love, his wonderful wife, Marie (Reilly) Stanley his lifelong best friend and companion.
Stan was a member of St. Bernard's Church in Plainfield and was a volunteer in their interfaith hospitality program.
He worked for many years at Engelhard Industries. He was a national accounts manager of industrial products, retiring in the 1980's.
Never a golfer or world class athlete, he loved to take long walks and could be seen every day throughout the surrounding neighborhoods. He loved nature, going on long rides and day trips with Marie. His happiest times were spent with her in Cape Cod several times a year, since they both discovered its beauty in the 1970's.
He was a great reader of books and a member of the Scotch Plains library for many years.
Stan was a wonderful father and grandfather who will be forever in our thoughts and prayers.
He is predeceased by his parents; Stanley H. Stanley and Estelle Stanley; his sister Jean (Stanley) Tomczak and his brother John Joseph Stanley.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marie (Reilly) Stanley; his daughter Susan Stanley; his son, Paul Thomas Stanley and his wife Diana Johnson Stroud; his 3 grandchildren; Lela, Thomas and Gabriel Stanley; sister-in-law Bernice Reilly and Patricia (Murray) Stanley; daughter-in-law, Patricia Birchard and her husband Rutherford; niece Joanne Tomczak and her husband Clint Pires; nephew Edward Tomczak; niece Elsie Tomczak and her partner Donna Ostrowski; nephew Mark Stanley and his wife Ellen; nephew, Matthew Stanley and his wife Margaux and cherished friend Geri Falcone.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at St. Bernard's RC Church in Plainfield from 10-11 a.m. followed by an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Resurrection. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ.
