We have lived across the street from Dave McGarry for 25 years. No matter where we went together, Dave drove or should I say flew. It was always an adventure. We had so many wonderful times like pulling George on a toboggan in a major snow storm from our house to theirs, so that we could watch a football game. Our trips to the shore with our kids and paint brushes for George to paint the little knobs on the yellow furniture will always be remembered. There are too many great times to count. We are so fortunate to have two families that enjoyed each other so much. But perhaps what will always stay in my mind is the time that our Kenny collapsed and I was terrified. Dave came over and took control of the situation. We could not have made it through that horrible night without the angel from across the street coming to our rescue.

My family has lived across the street from the McGarry’s for over 20 years. My children have been fortunate enough to live with one set of grandparents and having extra set across the street. Mr. & Mrs. McGarry came to the bus stop for the first day of school for all of my children. They were there when it was time for the training wheels to come off all their bikes and to shoot hoops with them during basketball season. We have been so fortunate to have such caring people living so close to us. Mr. McGarry was always there when we needed a hand, whether it was driving through the snow to pick the kids up from school or picking Kenny up for Lions club meetings. Kenny and I knew that we were grown ups when it came time to double date with the McGarry’s by going to the Lions Club dinner. There are so many memories that come rushing back to us at this time. Debbie, David, Janet, Judy and I amusing ourselves by doing Chinese fire drills up and down the boulevard on Long Beach Island, to our many ski trips, and playing Trivial Pursuit with Mr. McGarry who just needed a few more minutes to come up with the correct answers. As time passes these memories will hopefully be a comfort to his family, we know that for now there is only the terrible sadness of his not being here. We love you all and want you to know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Linda and family,
The news of your loss reached us today in London. Words cannot express the sorrow we feel. Dave was a wonderful friend. We have such fond memories of the times we spent together-- and memories are forever.
After hearing the sad news, we visited St. Paul's Cathedral and lit a candle in Dave's memory.
Our prayers are with you.
Much love and fortitude,
George and Alice

My deepest condolences to all of you.
Nothing is going to be the same without Mr. McGarry (I always had a hard time calling him Dave even after all these years). His unique sense of humor always cracked me up at Giants' games and everywhere else. Who is going to patrol the parking lot at Giants' stadium offering "helpful" parking hints?
We will have lots of toasts to Dave on Sept 10th and at Thanksgiving.
Much love,
Danielle Kadesh

Mr McGarry was more than a family friend--he was family.
I will always remember flying back to Estonia, shortly after our engagement party, talking to Tom about all the people he had just met. When I mentioned the McGarry's he said "Now there are some people you can trust to be there when the chips are down." You immediately knew he was someone you could rely on.
From tailgating at Giants games, to Thanksgiving dinner (complete with rutabaga), to Christmas, you could always count on Mr McGarry greeting you with a smile and a kind word. He will be greatly missed.

Mr. McGarry was our neighbor, but he was so much more than that. The memories are plenty, and they are all happy and make us laugh as we shed our tears. Going skiing every year and having him try to keep up with the "kids", going down the shore, ringing the bell at my parents house every time he came over, Christmas Parties, Jagermeister shots, watching the red jeep speed by with him at the wheel, the never ending stories he would come and tell us about Debbie and David, and in the past years about his grandchildren that he loved so much(and wanted to help name).... In the past years Shawn got to become one of his buddies, planning tailgate menus, going to the Giants games, and becoming a part of the "group", he was proud to call Mr. McGarry his friend. Mr McGarry was the one we always called when we needed help, and he has always been there for our family. He was much more than a neighbor, a friend, or an "uncle", he was an everyday part of our lives and we will all miss him terribly. Mrs. McGarry, Debbie, David Michael, Deb & Tom, we are so sorry for your loss.

We are so saddened by the loss of our friend Dave. He died too young. We thought we would have him for years more. We remember his intelligence, his charm, that sweet smile of his that we will miss so much. We have so many wonderful memories of him - at Lions, at the Halloween parties, bridge, tail gate parties, Christmas parties (he was always a good host),and a good friend, We remember him playing basketball with David Michael at the shore and remember the kite flying, the kielbasi he always cooked.
He could be very amusing, very forceful and very understanding as well.
We loved him like a brother and will always miss him. He has a place in our hearts forever - our happy Irishman.
May God be with him.
“Slan agus beanneacht,” to you Dave.
Your friends,
Ted and Judith
