Obituary of Edwin F. Ginty

Edwin F. Ginty, 83, died Sunday, May 25, 2003 at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville. Born in Jersey City to the late John Joseph Ginty of Cork, Ireland and Bridget Neville of Mayo, Ireland. Edwin lived in North Plainfield most of his life before moving to Basking Ridge 3 years ago. Mr. Ginty was in charge of the Building, Grounds and Transporation Department for the Watchung Hills Regional High School. He was a veteran of World War II, entering the Army in October 1941. He served in the North African Compaign, Sicily, Solerno Italy and was in the invasion of Southern France and Germany. He participated in the liberation of Paris. He was with the 59th Armored Field Artillery Battalion under Generals Mark Clark, George Patton and Dwight Eisenhower. After serving 4 years and 4 days, he was discharged as a Staff Sergeant October 1945. He was a communicant of St. James R.C. Church in Basking Ridge, a member of the VFW Post #6763 in South Plainfield, and a member of the US Golf Association in Far Hills. His whole world was being with his wife and his family. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Doris (Dottie) Quimby Ginty of Basking Ridge. His two sons, Edwin F. Ginty, Jr. and his wife Jacquelyn of Loveland, CO; Donald L. Ginty and his wife Patricia of Lebanon; a daughter, Donna L. Importico and her husband Ronald of Warren. Six grandchildren, Douglas Ginty and his wife Judy, Laura Hall and her husband Tory, two great-grandchildren, Trevor and Riley Hall; also grandchildren, Michael Ginty, Colleen Ginty, Ryan Importico and Heather Importico. The funeral will be held on Friday, May 30th at 9:00 a.m. from Higgins "Home For Funerals, 752 Mountain Boulevard, Watchung, followed by a 10:00 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. James R.C. Church, Basking Ridge. Entombment will be in Somerset Hills Memorial Park, Basking Ridge. Visitation will be on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Memorial donations may be made in his memory to JFK Hospice, James St., Edison, NJ 08817.
