Obituary of Joseph “Jerry” Brooks

Joseph Jerry Brooks Obituary Joseph Jerry Brooks, 79, died of an extended illness on Friday the 13th of June at Morristown Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his loving wife Lois, their children Richard, Andrea, Bonnie, Geri, Kathy and Susan, eight grandchildren and his brother Murray. Born to Ben and Sarah Brooks on May 23, 1924 in Newark, he and his twin brother Jack were the youngest of four children. His life with Lois was rich and full, enjoying many joyful moments with their friends and family. Jerry served his country honorably in the Coast Guard during World War II and after graduating from the Newark State Teachers College; he began a long, successful career as an industrial arts teacher in West Orange, NJ. Throughout his life, he and his twin shared a very special relationship, only having been apart for less than one year of the many happy ones they spent together fishing, teaching, and making people smile. Dedicated to his family, Jerry loved life and gave generously of his time. His unique warmth was shared with colleagues at school, Monday night card games, Tuesday nights with close friends, and daily breakfasts with the Culture Club. Each life he touched became better than it was before. Jerry will be remembered as a gifted craftsman, an outstanding teacher, a good friend to many, and a devoted husband and father. A Memorial service will be held at 12:00 pm on Monday June 16th at Higgins Home for Funeral 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung.
