Obituary of Jonathan Brown Hawkins, Jr.
Jonathan Brown Hawkins, Jr., age 55, died on Monday, July 7, 2003. Born in Freeport, TX, he lived in Grand Prairie, TX prior to moving to Plainfield in June of 1986.
Mr. Hawkins worked as a manager and systems programmer for AT&T in Somerset from 1984 to the present. Prior to his work there, he was the manager of the State of Texas Comptrollers Office from 1974-1984. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Vietnam War.
Mr. Hawkins was involved in a number of community activities, including Armed and Dangerous, a quartet affiliated with Faith Fellowship Ministries in Sayreville, to which eh was a baritone for the past 5 years. He was a long standing member and officer of Toastmasters International from 1986 to the present as well as the AT&T Toastmasters. He was an avid member of Faith Fellowship Ministries in Sayreville and a Deacon and Treasurer at Evening Chapel in Grand Prairie, TX from 1981-1986. He was the president of the Bible Study Group at AT&T. He was also a member of New Jerusalem in Freeport, TX upon returning from Vietnam.
Mr. Hawkins offered his time volunteering at Corner Stone Christian Academy in Sayreville during their speech meets, spelling bees, science fairs and a variety of other activities. He also enjoyed donationg time with his godson, Spain Maynor at Roselle Freshman Football during the 2002-2003 season.
Mr. Hawkins loved everybody. He was never known to say anything hurtful and remained faithful to God until the end. He never questioned. It was always Gods will.
He is predeceased by his mother, Darthula Helmes Hawkins, and his sister, Letha Hawkins.
Surviving are his wife, Brenda Lois (Hunt) Hawkins of Plainfield; one daughter, JLondon Ashley Hawkins, a sophomore at Bryn Mawr College in PA; his father, Jonathan Brown Hawkins, Sr.; a godson, Spain Maynor of Roselle; one goddaughter, Joi Bolden of Edison; one brother, Robert Victor Hawkins of Freeport, TX; six sisters, Bobby Darthard of Freeport, TX, Gertrude Davis of Brazoria, TX, Joann Burse of Freeport, TX, Clara Anthony of Houston, TX, Esther Pamplin of Freeport, TX, and Judy Mitchell of Freeport, TX; one godsister, Yvonne Maynor of Roselle; and a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws and loving friends.
