Obituary of Richard George “Dick” Barr

Watchung: Richard Dick G. Barr, age 73, died on Saturday, July 26, 2003, following a courageous battle with cancer, at Overlook Hospital in Summit. Born in Pittsburgh, PA to the late Thomas C. and Grace Conner Barr, Dick was raised in Bellevue, PA before residing in Watchung for the past 50 years. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He graduated in 1951 with a BA in Industrial Design from Carnegie-Mellon in Pittsburgh, and was self-employed as a furniture designer. Dick was a member of the Wilson Memorial Union Church in Watchung for many years. He was a past board member and currently as a High School Sunday School Teacher. He was a member of the Valley Players Theater Group having played many lead roles in their local productions. Also an avid fisherman, skier, yachtsman and tennis player. He is survived by his wife, Rose Anne Fitzgerald Barr. Two sons, Thomas Barr of Steamboat Springs, CO and Roger Barr of North Wales, PA; three daughters, Rebecca Winward of Burlington, VT, Virginia Riedy of Chambersburg, PA and Nancy Mercer of North Plainfield. One brother-in-law, Charles Fitzgerald of Venice, FL. And eleven grandchildren. The funeral service will be held on Monday, July 28, 2003 at 11 a.m. in the Wilson Memorial Union Church, Hillcrest Road, Watchung with Rev. Ron Miller officiating. Arrangements are by the Higgins "Home For Funerals", Watchung. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wilson Memorial Union Church In Memory of Richard Barr, 7 Valley Road, Watchung, NJ 07069 in his memory.
