Muriel (Gunn) Carson, age 79, died on Saturday, August 23, 2003 at her home in Toms River. Born in Watchung, she lived in North Plainfield and Plainfield before moving to Toms River in 1983.
Mrs. Carson attended North Plainfield public schools and graduated from Somerset School in North Plainfield in 1938. Prior to her retirement, she worked as a waitress for Barrys Diner in North Plainfield, Larrys Kosher Deli, the Frontier Diner in Plainfield, and various other restaurants in the area.
She enjoyed traveling, having visited many European countries and especially enjoyed driving across the United States with her family in 1964. In more recent years, she took part in trips that were arranged through Cedar Glen Homes, the retirement community that she moved to approximately 20 years ago.
She was predeceased by 3 brothers, 2 sisters, and by her husband of 54 years, Robert Carson, in 1994. Surviving are 2 daughters, Barbara Tullo of Martinsville and Claudia Eckels of Springfield, MA; and 3 grandchildren, Matthew Eckels of Rochester, NY, and Melissa and Robert Eckels of Springfield, MA.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 27th at 10:00 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Boulevard, Watchung, NJ 07069. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
