Obituary of Franklin G. Habig

Franklin G. Habig, age 85, died on Tuesday, September 9, 2003 at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield. Born in Newark, he was raised and lived in that vicinity prior to moving to North Plainfield over 50 years ago. Prior to his retirement in 1983, Mr. Habig held management positions with Ebasco Inc. and Champion International/US Plywood, both in New York City. He was a World War II US Army Veteran. He was an active parishioner of St. Josephs Church in North Plainfield and enjoyed traveling, caring for his dog, Blarney and his tropical fish, and spending time with his family and friends. Mr. Habig is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lillian Pat (Murphy) Habig of North Plainfield; one daughter, Gail Murray and her husband Jack of North Plainfield; two sons, John Habig and his wife Kelly of Portsmouth, NH and Robert Habig and his wife Linda of Menlo Park, CA; and four grandchildren, Kelly, Jim, Lauren and Claire. Funeral services will take place on Friday, September 12th at 8:15 a.m. from Higgins Home for Funerals, 461 Somerset Street, North Plainfield, followed by a 9:00 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Josephs R.C. Church in North Plainfield. Interment will follow at Fairmount Cemetery in Chatham. Visitation will be Thursday, September 11th from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
