Obituary of R. Peter Widin

R. Peter Widin, age 73, died on Monday, October 6, 2003 at his home in Watchung. Born and raised in Westfield, he lived in Scotch Plains before moving to Watchung 49 years ago. In 1982, Mr. Widin was appointed Somerset County Deputy Clerk. In 1987, he was appointed by Governer Kean to fulfill an unexpired term as County Clerk and was then elected as County Clerk three times. He retired December 31, 2002. Previously, Mr. Widin was a licensed real estate broker, having owned and operated his own real estate business for many years in Watchung. He was a Director and served as President in the year 2000 for the New Jersey Association of Counties. He was the Director and Past President of the Constitutional Officers Association of New Jersey, past President of the Somerset County Board of Realtors, past Director of the New Jersey Association of Realtors, past President of the Watchung Lions Club, past Chairman of the Watchung Planning Board, past President of the Somerset County Governing Officials, and the New Jersey Director of the International Association of Clerks, Recorders, Electional Officials and Treasurers. His brother, Edgar G. Widin predeceased him in 1970. He is survived by his wife, Adele (Greany) Widin of Watchung; two sons, Gregory P. Widin and his wife Katharine D. of Stillwater, Minnesota and Douglas R. Widin and his wife Jacqueline G. Segal of Upper Uwchlan Twp., PA.; one daughter, Nancy W. Soper and her husband Phillip R. of West Union, S.C.; and two grandchildren, Joan and Peter Widin. Funeral services will held on Thursday, October 9 at 11:00 am at the Wilson Memorial Union Church in Watchung. Entombment will follow at St. Marys Stony Hill Cemetery in Watchung. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 8th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung.
