Obituary of Angelo Nittoli
Angelo Nittoli, age 90, was taken into eternal rest on October 17, 2003 at his home in Piscataway.
Angelo was born to Antonio and Vittoria DiConza Nittoli on January 9, 1913 in the town of Lioni, Province of Avellino, Italy. He emigrated to the United States in 1930, joining his father in the laundry business in Brooklyn, NY and working as a taxi driver.
In 1941, he moved to Plainfield and became a communicant of St. Marys R.C. Church and a member of the Holy Name Society. He later moved to North Plainfield and then Piscataway, where he has resided since 1990.
Mr. Nittoli was a co-owner of the Plainfield Casting Company and was later employed byJay R. Smith Company, from which he retired in 1978.
He was a member of the Italian American Club of North Plainfield and Vero Beach, Florida, where he spent the winter months after his retirement. He was also a member of the Piscataway Senior Citizens and a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Piscataway. His favorite pastimes included playing cards and watching sports on T.V., especially baseball. He became an avid Mets fan after the Dodgers left Brooklyn. Since his passing, a nation wide search has begun to replace him as the worlds most devoted Mets fan.
Mr. Nittoli was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Rocco and Daniel Nittoli; and one sister, Antoinette Messano, all of Flushing, NY; a grandson, Joseph William (Billy) Ginda of Warren; and son-in-law, Preston Smith of Piscataway.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Grace Pepe Nittoli of Piscataway; a son, Anthony Nittoli of Raritan; three daughters, Rosalie Ginda of Somerset, Carol Smith of Piscataway, and Angela Reitemeyer and her husband John of Piscataway; ten grandchildren, Angelo Nittoli of Point Pleasant, Anthony Nittoli, Jr. and his wife Linda of New York, David Nittoli of Colorado, Catherine Nittoli of Glen Gardner, Theresa Logan and her husband Ed of Berkeley Heights, Ken Karl, Jr. and his wife Dana of Metuchen, Derek Nittoli of Somerset, Jennifer Shattle and her husband Christopher of Middlesex, Thomas Reitemeyer and Michael Reitemeyer of Piscataway; 16 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Michael Nittoli of Flushing, NY.
Funeral services will begin on Monday, October 20th at 8:45 am at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Boulevard, Watchung, NJ 07069, followed by a 10:00 am Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Piscataway. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Piscataway. Visitation will take place Saturday, October 18th from 7-9 pm and Sunday, October 19th from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the funeral home.
