Obituary of John M. Sisto
John M. Sisto, 71, died Sunday, October 26, 2003, at his home.
Born in Newark, he resided in Rahway before moving to Watchung in 1968.
Prior to his retiring four years ago, Mr. Sisto was a second generation excavating contractor for his family business, United Excavating in Linden.
He served in the United States Army
Mr. Sisto had owned and bred several harness racing horses which raced at the Meadowlands Track, Brandywine Track in Delaware, and Liberty Bell Park Track in Philadelphia. He was captain of his 1950 Rahway High School baseball team which won the Greater Newark Tournament. He liked vintage automobiles and auto racing.
For the past eight years, Mr. Sisto enjoyed spending half the year at his second home in Hillsborough Beach, Florida. He enjoyed traveling with his family, music and the theatre
Surviving are his wife Elizabeth J. (Seck) Sisto, three sons; John M. Sisto Jr. of Westfield, Donald E. Sisto of Basking Ridge, James P. Sisto of Bernardsville and one daughter; Susan S. Cusick of Westfield. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 9:00 am on Wednesday, October 29 from the Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung, followed by a 9:30 am funeral Mass at St. Marys Stony Hill Church in Watchung and interment at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9.
