Obituary of Louis Bernard Mitzner
Louis Bernard Mitzner, age 90, died on Tuesday, November 18, 2003 , at Compassionate Care Hospice in Dover. Born in Poland, he lived in Elmwood Park for over 50 years, before moving to Clifton 3 years ago.
As a teenager, Lou began working in the jewelry business. He bought his own jewelry store, L.B. Mitz & Co., and moved to Paterson in the early 1940s, owning and operating it until 1960. After closing his store, he worked for various jewelers in the area.
Mr. Mitzner was a 33rd degree Mason and Shriner and a member of Humboldt Craftsmen Club in Paterson, where he was a past Master. He was chairman of the East Paterson Board of Education Lay Advisory Committee.
Rather than his own achievements, he was most proud of those of his children and grandchildren. Even though he never completed high school, he stressed the importance of education and made sure all of his children graduated college and had the opportunity to further their studies afterward.
He was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Dora (Dee) Mitzner in 2002. Surviving are 2 sons, Dr. Kenneth Mitzner of Oceanside, CA, and Michael Mitzner of Watchung; his daughter, Susan Stanisci of West Caldwell; seven grandchildren, Dawn, Scott, Camille, Esther, Sharon, Jared and Jeana; and 12 great-grandchildren, Sydney, Zachary, Cooper, Mason, Mia, Madison, Zoey, Antonio, Isabel, Ari, Robby, and Jacob.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, November 20th at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung with Rabbi Michael Abraham officiating. Interment will follow at Hebrew Cemetery in South Plainfield.
