Dick Schneider was an excellent teacher and coach, who was well respected by the entire North Plainfield High School community. He had a great sense of humor that could brighten even the most difficult school day.
In my many years of working with Dick, I don't remember anyone--student, teacher, administrator -- saying anything against him. He was certainly well respected and he earned that respect with his great love of teaching and coaching, his fairness, and his understanding.
I have always appreciated the encouragement he gave me in my beginning years of teaching.
I will miss seeing him at the Alumni Hall of Fame events.
My deepest sympathies. I am very sad that he will no longer be with us.

Dear Friends,
My fondest memories of Dick are his energy, good will and the true respect he accorded his classroom students and his sports enthusiasts. He taught by example the dignity of the individual - that all have worth. What better lesson can be instilled in young children. We can be thankful for his presence in this world, with us, and please know I am with you in prayer during this period of grief. As time goes on you will remember the happy times, and that will be good. God Bless you all.
Peace and hope,
Skip Hansen

I remember "Dick" as Don's brother. He was a nice, gentle man. He coached football at NPHS after I graduated. (Don was my coach.) Dick always had a smile for me. I'll pray for him.

I was very sad to learn of Mr. Schneider's passing. I played for him when he was an assistant coach for North Plainfield in the early 80s. He was a great man, coach and educator. I am in the sports business and 4-5 years ago, I made an appearance on TV prior to a Mets-Yankees game. Mr. Schneider wrote me and told me he had seen it and left his number for me to contact him. I called a few days later and we talked for a couple of hours about NPHS and where our lives had taken us. My brother was recently inducted into the NPHS Hall of Fame. I couldn't be there because of work responsibilities, but the first question I asked him was if Mr. Schneider was there. He was a warm, kind man who made a difference, at least on one person's life.
Unfortunately, work again will prevent me from attending tonight's viewing. But please know my thoughts and prayers are there.
