Obituary of Roger William Burke

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2003 at 7:00 pm at St. Marks Episcopal Church for Roger William Burke, Sr., 81, who died on December 3, 2003 at the Higland Nursing Home in Edison, NJ. Mr. Burke was born on July 13, 1922 in Gates County, North Carolina. He came to New Jersey with his family when he was a toddler. He spent the rest of his life in New Jersey, grew up in South Plainfield, and graduated from North Plainfield High School. He served in the United States Army during World War II. Mr. Burke was a long-time member of St. Marks Episcopal Church and Stone Square Masonic Lodge No. 38. Prior to his retirement, he was an automobile salesman for Acme Motors in Highland Park, New Jersey. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Viola Burke and a sister, Miriam Crockett. Surviving are his wife, Myrtle E. Burke, son, Robert W. Burke, Jr., daughter, Beverly J. Burke, daughter-in-law, E. Kathleen Shahan, son-in-law, Gregory S. Saunders, sisters Dorothy Quinn of Hyannis, Massachusetts and Marcia Garcia of Aurora, Colorado, and grandchildren, Jennifer L. Burke, Nathanial B. Saunders and Benjamin J. Saunders of Washington, D.C.. Arrangements are by Higgins Home for Funerals, 209 West 8th Street, Plainfield, NJ.
