Obituary of Gertrude Becker

Gertrude (Gigi) Milecofsky Becker, age 89, died on Tuesday, January 13th at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield. She was born in New York City and had lived in North Plainfield before moving to South Plainfield 20 years ago. Mrs. Becker was a graduate of Ryder College in Trenton and taught Business at the college. She also taught business at the high school level in Pottstown, PA. In the 1950s she was a real estate broker and worked with her father, Samuel Milecofsky at the Milecofsky Agency formerly of North Plainfield. She later worked for Weston Shoes in Plainfield, a family business. She most recently worked as the business manager for the Sleep Factory in East Brunswick, a business owned by her son-in-law, Arthur Staffin. She worked at the Sleep Factory for 20 years, retiring six years ago. She was well respected in the Plainfield area business community. In 1944, she was the first woman honored by The Plainfield Chamber of Commerce as Woman of the Year. Gertrude was known as a loving, caring unselfish individual who always looked after everyone else. She will be greatly missed by family and friends. Her husband Paul Becker died in 1974. Survivng are her two daughters: Diane Kall of Columbia, SC and Joyce Staffin; four grandchildren, Gary Staffin, Shari Cooper, Amie Brisker and Elizabeth Kall; and three great-grandchildren Matthew Staffin, Alyssa Staffin and Sophie Brisker. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 16th at 12:00 noon at Higgins Home for Funerals, 209 West Eighth Street, South Plainfield. The interment will follow at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge. Memorial contributions may be made to The American Heart association, 2550 US Highway 1, North Brunswick, NJ 08902-4301.
