Obituary of Robert J. “Bob” Beckert

Robert (Bob) J. Beckert, age 46, died on Thursday, February 5th in a car accident in Oklahoma City. Bob worked as Vice President of Customer Operations for AT&T Wireless in Basking Ridge. He was born in New York City and had lived in Watchung for 23 years. He was formerly of Warren where he was active in scouting and was an Eagle Scout. Bob was a graduate of Watchung Hills Regional High School in Warren and was a member of the 1974 NJ State Championship Cross Country Team. He received a BS degree from Northeastern University in Boston and an MBA from Long Island University. Bob was an active member of his church, St. Marys Stony Hill Church in Watchung. He served on the Parish council and had taught CCD for the past 10 years. Bob was also very involved in his community; serving as Tiger Cub Leader and was a former Little League coach. He was also a member of the Watchung Optimist Club where he served as President in 1997. He loved to ski, run, sail, hike and bike. Above all, Bob was the consummate family man. He is survived by his wife, Nancy J. (Schneider) Beckert; his daughters, Kaitlin, Kristin and Brittany, all at home; his son, Brian, at home; his parents, John and Joan Beckert of Warren; his brothers, John Beckert and his wife Chris, of Warren, Richard Beckert and his wife Nancy of Ridgefield CT; his sisters, Kathleen Caola and her husband Drew of Bridgewater, Patricia Farrell and her husband Brian of Fogelsville, PA and Nancy Stenersen and her husband Trey of Charlotte, NC. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, February 10th at 9:00 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd, Watchung followed by a 10:00 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Marys Stony Hill Church, Watchung. Interment will follow at St. Marys Stony Hill Cemetery, Watchung. Visitation will be on Sunday from 7-9 p.m. and on Monday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to the Robert J.
