Obituary of Josephine “Jo Or Nan” Hannigan
Josephine Jo Hannigan, 88 died Friday, February 20, 2004 at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield.
Born in Brooklyn, she resided in Clearwater, FL. Before moving to Plainfield in 1977.
As a young woman, she had been employed as a stenographer and executive secretary.
Jo, or Nan, as she preferred to be called, was an expert in needlecraft. Her quilts were displayed in many shows and her afghans have warmed countless laps. She was an avid dancer and bowler, winning awards for her skills in both.
To Jo, family was everything and everyone was her family. Her generous spirit, smiles and hugs will always be remembered.
Mrs. Hannigan was a volunteer at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield for 15 years and was a member of the Laurel League.
Her brother Joseph Gacnik and a sister Helen Marrotte predeceased her.
Surviving are two daughters; Dr. Joan Hannigan Coll of Plainfield and Debra Lekas of Phoenix, AZ; three sisters; Frances Ewan of Charleston, SC, Meri Burke of Westbrook, Maine and Agnes Mesisca of Orange, CA; three grandchildren, Catherine Coll Buckley, John Jay Peter Coll and Stacey-Jo Coll Hazard. Also surviving are 9 great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 23, 2004 at 12:30 p.m. followed by a funeral Mass at St. Bernards R.C. Church in Plainfield at 1:00 p.m. entombment will be at Holy Redeemer Cemetery Mausoleum in South Plainfield. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. In Lieu of flowers donations to the American Heart Association, NJ Affiliate, 2550 Route 1, North Brunswick, N.J. 08902 would be appreciated.
