Obituary of John Godenick

John Godenick, age 84, died on Monday, February 23rd at his home in Plainfield. Mr. Godenick was born in Crabtree, PA and had lived in Woodbridge and Piscataway before moving to Plainfield over 40 years ago. Before retiring in 1988, Mr. Godenick was an independent truck driver for the Teamsters Union Local 701 in Jersey City. Previously, he was the maintenance supervisor for the Carteret Ordinance and later was transferred and worked in the same capacity at Raritan Arsenal in Woodbridge. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Piscataway and was a Pathfinder Leader and the Director of Outdoor Activities for the children of the church aged 10 thru 16, taking them on expeditions all over the country. He enjoyed helping people with out needing recognition. Mr. Godenick is survived by his wife of 60 years, Irene Kerpits Godenick; his sons, Thomas J. Godenick and his wife Heather of Green Brook, John D. Godenick and his wife Sue of Owings, MD and Mark T. Godenick and his wife Connie of Duncan, SC. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be on Thursday, February 26th at 7:30 pm at Higgins Home for Funerals, 209 West Eighth Street, Plainfield. Visitation will be on Thursday, February 26th from 2-5 & 7-9 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to your favorite charity or Lake Nelson SDA School in Mr. Godenicks name.
