Obituary of Harold Arnett Smith
Harold Arnett Smith, 87, of Plainfield, NJ died on Friday, February 27, 2004 in Muhlenberg Hospital of Plainfield, NJ following an extended illness. He was born in Fort Pierce, FL on May 13, 1916. Son of the late Gerald N. Smith and Eva Ruth (Musser) Smith. On August 12, 1941, he married Jenneth Blanche (Bartlett) Smith, who survives.
Mr. Smith is survived by two daughters, Donna Jane Remke of Lawrence, Kansas and Norma Joy Sessions of Columbia, SC; four sons, Dr. Warren Drew Smith of Sacramento, CA, Steven Lew Smith of Buford, GA, Dean Arnett Smith of St. Cloud, FL and David Winfield Smith of Clinton, NJ. Nineteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Dr. Gerald Wayne Smith of Waynesburg, PA and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by one brother Carper Smith and one sister Geraldine Smith Muscari.
Mr. Smith was an electrical engineer with the Department of Defense. He was a veteran of W.W.II in the Pacific Theater in the signal corp. He received his masters from West Virginia University. He belonged to the honorary societies of Tau Beta Pi and Eta Kappa Nu and Pi Tau Sigma. Mr. Smith was a member of the First Park Baptist Church of Plainfield, New Jersey.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 2, 2004 at 11 a.m. from the Broad Run Baptist Church of Jane Lew, WV with Reverend Dale Sessions officiating. Interment will follow services in the Broad Run Cemetery, Jane Lew, WV. Mr. Smiths body will lie in state from 10 until 11 a.m. the funeral hour.
