Obituary of John F Martinkovic, Sr.

Mr. John F. Martinkovic, Sr., 89, died Thursday, March 4, 2004 in New Port Richey, Florida. Born in Plainfield, he attended St. Marys School in Plainfield and Don Bosco Academy in North Jersey, where he ran track and field. He moved to Florida 30 years ago. Prior to retiring, Mr. Martinkovic was a postal employee at the Plainfield Post Office for 15 years. Previously, he was employed as captain of security at Scotts Machinery in Plainfield, shipping and receiving supervisor at Independent Lithograph in Plainfield and traffic manager at Moores Trucking in South Plainfield. He served in the Army National Guard. A member of the Plainfield Hibernian Club, he coached several little league baseball teams in Plainfield. He loved salt water fishing and playing baseball. His wife Marguerite predeceased him in 2001. Surviving are two sons, John F. Martinkovic, Jr. and his wife Mary Lou of Edison and Ken Biddle of FL, two daughters, Linda Pitcox of FL and Lois Quinlan and her husband George of NJ; a sister, Elaine House and her husband George of NC, nine grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, March 10 at 9:30 am from the Higgins Home for Funerals, 209 West Eighth Street, Plainfield, followed by a 10 am funeral Mass at St. Marys R.C. Church in Plainfield and interment at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm.
