Obituary of Florine A. Whitley
Mrs. Florine A. (Guenther) Whitley, age 84, died Sunday, March 7, 2004 at the New Jersey Eastern Star Home in Bridgewater.
Born in Newark, she resided in Westfield before moving to Watchung in 1955.
A member of Wilson Memorial Union Church in Watchung, she was very active in the Womens Guild, sang in the choir and volunteered at the Frippery, a small Church sponsored shop.
Mrs. Whitley loved to crochet, knit, cook and bake. She was a very talented woman who played the piano and danced with her brother years ago in vauderville at the Ritz Theatre in Elizabeth. In addition, she drew, painted and sewed her own slipcovers.
She and her husband enjoyed working together on outside projects such as laying the brick walkway leading to their house; attending the Watchung Senior Citizens meetings and activities and playing pinochle.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Atlas Chapter #99 of Westfield.
Her husband of 63 years,William H. Whitley, predeceased her in September of 2003, as well as her two brothers, Harry W. and Alvin C. Guenther.
Surviving are a daughter, Deborah Yock and her husband Raymond of Stewartsville, NJ, a son, Keith W. Whitley of Intercession City, FL, a sister, Gloria H. Moffett of Sparta, 6 grandchildren, Jon, Jeff, Shayne and Tommy Whitley and Jason and Kristin Yock and 5 great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, March 11, 2004 at 7:00 pm at Wilson Memorial Union Church, 7 Valley Road in Watchung. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with an 8:00 pm Order of the Eastern Star Service at the Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd. in Watchung.
