Obituary of Richard Vincent Renga
Richard V. Renga, age 64, died on Thursday, March 11th at his home in Plainfield. He was born in Newark and raised in Irvington before moving to Plainfield in 1970.
He received a Bachelor of Science degree Seton Hall University.
Mr. Renga worked for the city of Plainfield as a Purchasing Agent for the past 30 years where he rode his bike to and from work every day.
Mr. Renga was very involved in his church, St. Helens in Westfield where he was a daily communicant. He was also the President of the Pastoral Council, a member of the Liturgy Committee, a Eucharistic Minister and a lector. He was also very active in the Homeless Program Shelter. Mr. Renga volunteered at the soup kitchens at St. Josephs in Elizabeth and coordinated the monthly soup kitchen at St. Marys in Plainfield. He was also a constant advocate in writing letters for the Right to Life.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Catherine G. Renga; his children Mary Catherine Carr, Michael Renga, Ann Marie Dubanowitz and Peter Renga; his grandchildren Christopher, Elizabeth, Patrick, Mason and Lily and his brother Robert Renga well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, March 15, 2004 at 8:45 a.m. from Higgins Home for Funerals, 209 West Eighth St., Plainfield followed by a 10:00 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Helens Roman Catholic Church, Westfield. Interment will be in St. Gertrudes Cemetery, Colonia. Visitation will be on Sunday, March 14th 2-4 & 7-9 at the funeral home.
