Obituary of Anthony P. Bernero
Anthony Bernero, 80, died Sunday, March 21, 2004 at Morristown Memorial Hospital in Morristown.
Born in Jersey City, he resided in Elizabeth and Westfield before moving to Bedminster 8 years ago.
Mr. Bernero was employed as a machinist for 30 years by the American Can Company in Jersey City until the plant closed 30 years ago. He then worked as a flower delivery person for Garden State Florist in Warren for several years and for 12 years as a machinist for Durex Company in Union.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII.
A communicant of Blessed Sacrament R.C. Church in Martinsville, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Our Lady of the Hills, Council #5959 of Martinsville.
A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he enjoyed golfing at the Lyons VA Golf Course in Lyons. He had a special fondness for animals, frequently donating to their causes.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Alice Pellegrini Bernero, two sons, Paul A. and his wife Vera Bernero of Bridgewater and David and his wife Ellen Bernero of Somerset and two grandsons, Matthew and Gregory Bernero.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday at 9:15 am from the Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, followed by a 10 am funeral Mass at Blessed Sacrament R.C. Church in Martinsville and interment at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory to the American Cancer Society, Somerset Unit, 600 First Ave., Raritan, NJ 08869, would be appreciated.
