Obituary of Joseph D. Barata
Joseph D. Barata, age 69, died on Thursday, April 8, 2004 at the Somerset Medical Center in Somerville.
Born and raised in Freeland, PA, Joseph had moved to New Jersey at the age of 17, and had resided in Warren for the last 32 years.
Mr. Barata was a communicant of Our Lady of the Mount R.C. Church in Warren. He began his career as an auto mechanic, and went on to own several service stations and car dealerships. He was self-employed as an auto salesman his whole life. He also obtained his real estate license in 2002. Mr. Barata was a classic car enthusiast as well as an avid golfer, but he really loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Mr. Barata is predeceased by Alfredo and Ida Pappalardo Barata and his brother Daniel Barata.
He is survived by his wife, Katherine Cardell Barata of Warren. His son, Joseph Barata of Bridgewater. Two daughters, Karen Duncan of Hopatcong and Laurie Harcharek of Lawrenceville. His mother, Elizabeth Barata of Hazelton, PA. One brother, Fernand Barata of Morgantown, WV. Four grandchildren, Kelly, Andrea and Colleen Duncan and Dylan Stewart.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 14th at 9:15 a.m. from the Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung followed by a 10 a.m. funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Mount R.C. Church, Warren. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Basking Ridge. Visitation will be on Monday 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
