Obituary of Robert A. Donohue
Robert A. Donohue, 82, died at home after a long illness on Tuesday, December 4, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Jersey City in 1930, the oldest of three sons of Robert and Florence Donohue.
Mr. Donohue received his bachelor's degree from St. John's University and his MBA from New York University and served his country in the United States Army in the early 1950s. He retired in 1985 as Chief Auditor of Western Electric/AT&T, where he worked for 35 years holding a variety of financial roles at facilities in New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and New York City. Mr. Donohue subsequently worked until 1995 as financial vice president for the Center for Educational Advancement, a non-profit organization devoted to serving and helping to improve the lives of people with special needs, in Flemington.
A self-described sports nut, Mr. Donohue thought nothing of flying great distances to cheer on his Red Sox, New York Giants, Knicks and St. John's Redmen. He was a big hearted, beloved husband, father and grandfather who was truly the life of the party, a natural dancer and comedian who loved the beach, skiing and traveling.
Mr. Donohue was predeceased by his former wife of 34 years, Henryetta W. Donohue. He is survived by his wife of 22 years Eileen (Hickey) Donohue; his daughter Dr. Louise Donohue-Malatesta and her husband Jim; his daughter Adele Ambrose and her husband Greg; his son Dr. Robert Donohue and his wife Susann; his son Michael Donohue; his stepdaughter Ann Marie Hickey; his grandchildren Jamie and his wife Kelly; Kelsey; Conor; Alyce; Maggie and Amanda Mae; his three great grandchildren; his brothers James J. Donohue and his wife Marlene; his brother William C. Donohue and his wife Irene; sister-in-law Peg Wagner Fashena, and more than two dozen nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday December 7, from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm at the Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, N.J.
