Obituary of Nicholas G. “Nick” Drakos

Nicholas G. Drakos, 86, died on Thursday, June 24, 2004, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. Mr. Drakos was born and raised in Andros, Greece, came to the US in 1937 and lived in Elizabeth before residing in Middlesex for the past 34 years Mr. Drakos was the founder of the Brothers Restaurant, Riverview Diner, Golden Touch Diner and most recently owned and operated the Sunset Diner in Green Brook prior to his retirement several years ago He was a communicant of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Piscataway. He was an avid reader and also loved swimming in the ocean. He was a member of the Monroe Chapter of AHEPA, and also a member of St. Panteleimon Society of West Orange. Mr. Drakos is predeceased by his wife Margaret Demestichas (1980) and his son George N. Drakos (1992). He is survived by his long time companion Elaine A. Caldarella of Middlesex, one daughter; Irene Rompos of Middlesex , two brothers James G. Drakos of Hillside and John G. Drakos of Athens, Greece, two sisters, Sophia Massouris of Athens, Greece and Arete Alexandropoulos of Glyfada, Greece, and three grandchildren, John Moustakas of Washington, DC, Nicholas G. Drakos of Bridgewater and George A. Rompos of Middlesex. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 28 at 9 a.m. from the Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Boulevard, Watchung followed by a 10: 30 a.m. funeral mass in St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Piscataway. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery in Westfield. Visitation will be on Saturday 7-9 and Sunday 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the funeral home.
