Obituary of Elizabeth S. Von Sothen

Elizabeth Stover von Sothen, 83, died Sunday, July 4, 2004 at the Hospice at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield. Born in Brooklyn, she was raised in Syracuse and moved to North Plainfield in 1946. She resided there until 3 years ago when she moved to Watchung. Mrs. von Sothen graduated from Smith College, Massachusetts with a BA degree in 1943. She taught at the Wardlaw Hartridge School in Plainfield for 3 years, prior to becoming a homemaker. Mrs. von Sothen was a member of the Crescent Avenue Presbyterian Church in Plainfield and was an active member of the Church Guild. She was past president of the Womens Auxiliary at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield. In addition, she was a member of the Smith Womens Club; the AAUW ( American Association of University Women) for over 50 years and the Plainfield Junior Womens Club. Elizabeth loved to sing Irish Music. Her husband of 57 years, Robert C. von Sothen predeceased her in 2003. Surviving are a son Peter A. von Sothen and his wife Marian of Palatine, IL; a daughter Anne von Sothen of Arlington Heights, IL and Sue Marrese and her husband Peter of Berkeley Heights. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Steven and Karen von Sothen and Robert Marrese. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, July 8 at a time to be announced at the Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung followed by interment at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm.
