Obituary of John J. McCann

John J. McCann, age 77, died on Thursday, August 12, 2004 at Community Memorial Medical Center in Toms River. He was born in Bethlehem, PA and had lived in North Plainfield for many years before moving to Ortley Beach four and a half years ago. He received his Bachelors Degree in marketing in 1949 from Seton Hall University in South Orange. Prior to his retirement, he was a Systems Analyst for Manufacturers Hanover in New York City. Mr. McCann was a member of the Moose Lodge # 399 in Ortley Beach and was a volunteer camera man for Public Service T.V. in Scotch Plains. He was a communicant of St. Bernards R.C. Church in Plainfield where he was a Eucharistic Minister and also the churchs photographer. Mr. McCann served in the Coast Guard during World War II. He is predeceased by his wife, Marie P. McCann in 1987. Surviving are his son James J. McCann of Ortley Beach; his daughter Margaret Mary Grausso and her husband Salvatore of Little Egg Harbor and 4 grandchildren, Bryan, Joseph, Allyssa and Angela. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and a great grand niece. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, August 17th at 9:00 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 209 West 8th St. Plainfield followed by a 10:00 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Bernards Church in Plainfield. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday, August 16, 2004 from2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
