I have a painting done by Coach Abe Smith. My father was Michael F Boruch. He played football at Plainfield High School along with Milt Campbell who later won the Olympic decathlon. My father looked up to coach and once took me to his home where he was painting portraits. My father was an exceptional man, father, athlete, and was always listening to sports, talking about sports watching sports going to games and lifting people to better themselves and achieve success in life through the spirit and teaching he learned playing sports and being coached but such tremendous people as Abe Smith.

To the Family of Abe Smith:
I would like to express my deep regrets and sympathy at the passing of Coach Smith. He was one of a handful of people who I can genuinely say had a deep and lasting effect on me. He helped me achieve my life's dreams--to be a successful athlete and to attend the college of my choice. I was a third string fullback. He saw I had the potential be a first string tackle. I told him I wanted to attend Yale, and he opened doors for me and supported me in every way he could. He was an unselfish mentor who guided me toward fulfilling the best in myself. I also believe, like a father, he was proud of my achievements and understood how much he had contributed. The fullness of his life lives on in those he helped shape.
With deepest condolences,
Stan Riveles

To the family of Abe Smith,
I,m a 1959 Graduate of PHS. Abe Smith was one of the finest educators I aver had the privelage of knowing. I didn't know him as a coach, as I didn't play football, but I knew him as the head of the physical ed dept. He was always fair, understanding and just a all around "good"person. When I saw the paper today and the picture, I felt very sad.
Please accept my condolences.
