Obituary of Stephen Martin Varmuza, Sr.

Mr. Stephen M. (Steve) Varmuza, Sr., age 90, died on Wednesday, September 29, 2004 at his home. Born in Bel Air, Ohio to the late Martin and Thacler Junigir Varmuza, Steve had lived in Dunellen most of his life before moving to Warren 39 years ago. Mr. Varmuza owned and operated the Dunellen Auto Service Center until 1965; he then worked for Dawson Ford in Summit, and also Boro Motors in New Brunswick, retiring in 1986. He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Mount RC Church in Warren, and a former communicant of St. Johns RC Church in Dunellen. He was a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus in Martinsville, Local Council #5959 and also a 4th degree member with the George Washington Assembly #0653 in Somerville. A member of St. Johns RC Church Holy Rosary Society in Dunellen, and a member of the Somerville Elks Lodge. Mr. Varmuza is predeceased by his first wife, Anna Zednick Varmuza in 1969. He is survived by his wife, Helena Pettykowski Varmuza of Warren. His son, Stephen M. Varmuza, Jr. of Centerville, OH; his daughter, Barbara Harkins of Cutchogue, Long Island, NY; and seven grandchildren, Stephen, Mark, Kathy, Susan and John Varmuza also Scott and Abby Harkins. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 2nd at 9:15 a.m. from the Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Boulevard, Watchung followed by a 10:30 a.m. funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Mount RC Church, Warren. Interment will be in Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield. Visitation will be on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.
