Obituary of Josephine O. Gibney

Mrs. Josephine Ockershausen Gibney, age 91 died on Tuesday, October 5, 2004 at Arbor Glen Continuing Care Retirement Community in Bridgewater. She was born in Mamaroneck, NY , was a former Bronx resident and had lived in Syosset, NY for 50 years before moving to Bridgewater, NJ in 2001. During World War II, Mrs. Gibney was an officer for the Larchmont Savings Bank in Larchmont, NY. After the war, she was employed by Doern Reality of Mamaroneck, NY. in the real estate and insurance business. She then worked in insurance sales for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in New York City. From 1956 to her retirement in 1980, she was employed by the Syosset Central School District # 2 as administrative assistant to the superintendent and held various secretarial positions to junior high and elementary school principals. After retirement she worked part time for 17 years for the Visiting Nurse Association of Northport, NY. Mrs. Gibney was a Communicant of Our Lady of the Mount Church in Warren, NJ and was a former parishioner of St. Edward the Confessor in Syosset, NY. She was a founder and charter member of St. Monicas Group for Widows and Widowers. She is predeceased by her husband, William M. Gibney in 1962. and her brother George Ockershausen and a sister Marie Dailinger. Surviving are her sons, Robert M. Gibney and his wife Salley of Dorset, VT, Alan W. Gibney of Pittsburgh, PA and her daughter, Janet G. Pillard and her husband Ed of Warren, NJ. Also surviving are her 6 grandchildren, Tiffany, Kelly, Craig, Eric, Salley Anne and Matthew. Funeral services will be on Friday, October 8, 2004 at 9:15 am at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung followed by a 9:45 am Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Mount Church, Warren. Interment will follow at Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale, NY at 12:45 pm. Visitation will be on Thursday, October 7th from 2-4 & 7-9 at the funeral home.
