Obituary of John J. Teller

Mr. John J. Teller, 57 of Warren, died on Sunday, October 10, 2004 in the University Medical Center in Newark after a lengthy illness. Mr. Teller served in the U.S. Army and was a Viet Nam War Veteran. He was a maintenance mechanic and later on, a refrigeration mechanic at Union Carbide Corporation in Bound Brook for 36 years, retiring in 2001. He gained notoriety for his radio cooking show done on WBRW based in Bridgewater. Referred to as J.T.s Menu, the spotlight was shared with his companion of many years, Julie Schenck and they often entertained listeners with their weekend culinary delights. Mr. Teller was also a Citizens Band radio operator for many years and served as an officer of the East Coast Five Watters Association. He also enjoyed his classic cars and was the proud owner of two 1968 Plymouth Roadrunners, one of which he was the original owner. He was a graduate of Bound Brook High School, attended Rutgers University School of Engineering, served a number of apprenticeships and was a graduate of several trade schools. He was a member of the American Legion; the Catholic War veterans; and the Paper, Allied-Industrial Chemical and Energy Workers International Union. Mr. Teller was also an avid traveler, gardener and wildlife enthusiast. He is survived by his mother, Marianne P. Teller of Buttzville; his loving companion of 35 years, Julie Schenck; his uncle and aunt, Walter and Josephine Richter of Redlands, CA and several cousins. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 15, 2004 at 11:00 am at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Piscataway. Visiting will be on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the funeral home.
