Obituary of Edith Hazel Farmer

Edith Farmer, 93 passed into eternal rest on October 21st at the home of her daughter0in-law Isabel Farmer in Orford, New Hampshire. Edith was born in Middlesex Boro during the era of horse and wagon. She was fond of telling stories of those days and of her work on her fathers asparagus farm. At the age of 17 she obtained her cosmetology license and opened her own shop in Newark. She practiced that trade throughout her life, owning three shops in the Plainfield area. Her last business endeavor was the Edith Farmer Beauty Salon on Somerset Street in North Plainfield. She resided in North Plainfield Boro for over 72 years. Edith loved baking, sitting on her front porch and being with her family. She pursued the hobby of deep sea fishing well into her 80s and was known as an accomplished fisherwoman. She was predeceased by her husband, former North Plainfield Police Chief, Ralph Farmer, her beloved son, Rudy Farmer, her sister Jane, her brother George and her twin sister Amy. Surviving are her daughter Joyce McBride of Brick, her sister Esther Graziano of Bound Brook, her brother Robert Sevasin of Mission, Texas, her daughter-in-law Isabel Farmer of Orford, New Hampshire as well as six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The family will hold private funeral services.
