Obituary of Anne Jane Smedly

Anne Jane (Cleaver) Smedley, age 79, died on Thursday October 21st at Norwood Terrace Health Center in Plainfield. Mrs.Smedley grew up in Conshohocken, PA and with her late husband, Henry, raised her family in Watchung, NJ. She graduated from the Philadelphia College of Art and was an Art Teacher at Swarthmore and Bryn Mahr Schools in Pennsylvania until her marriage in 1954. Artwork was her lifelong passion and she loved drawing and painting in all mediums. She was a member of the Watchung Historical Society and the Religious Society of Friends in Summit, NJ. Her husband Henry R. Smedley, Sr. died in 1997. Surviving are two sons Henry R. Smedley, Jr. and his wife, Kathryn Chow of New York, NY and Jonathan Smedley and his wife Beth of Flemington; her daughter, Deborah Blackburn of Sante Fe, NM and her grandson, Nolan Robert Blackburn. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 25, 2004 at 3:00 p.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung. Visitation will be held on Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Cremation will be private.
