Obituary of Rose Gilch
Rose (Israel) Gilch, 86, passed away on Saturday, November 13, 2004 at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville.
Born in Hoboken, she resided in Jersey City and Toms River before moving to Bridgewater.
She and her husband, Joseph Gilch, who predeceased her in 1992, partnered in several family businesses in Jersey City, including Rose and Joe's Delicatessen and South and Sherman Handy Wash laundromat. Rose also owned and operated Rose's Dress Shop there. Additionally, she worked at Standard Brands in Hoboken until her retirement.
When they retired, she and her husband moved to Holiday City in Toms River, where Rose continued her active lifestyle. She served as President of the Woman's Club, ran monthly bus trips to Atlantic City and entertained as "Rosie the Clown" at community events. Most recently, she resided in Brandywine Assisted Living in Bridgewater.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph and Betty Ann, Ronald and Diane, J. David and Andrea and her son Wayne; four grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren.
Her grandson, Jonathan Brunner Gilch predeceased her in 2001.
Funeral Services will be held privately. Family and friends are kindly invited to the visitation on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung. In lieu of flowers, donations to the New Jersey Audubon Society Headquarters, 9 Hardscrabble Road, PO Box 126, Bernardsville, NJ 07924 would be deeply appreciated.
