Obituary of John K. Nakonechy
John K. Nakonechy, 85, died Friday, April 15, 2005 at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield.
Born and raised in Staten Island, he moved to Warren Township, NJ 30 years ago.
John was employed as a police officer for over 20 years for the City of New York, retiring in 1972 as a corrections officer with the Department of Corrections in New York
Mr. Nakonechy served in the Army as Corporal with Company D, 410th Infantry during WWII. He fought in all the major battles from North Africa to the liberation. Wounded in Anzio, Italy, in May of 1944, he was the recipient of the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star in 1945.
He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Association and was an active member of Our Lady of the Mount Church in Warren.
Surviving are; his wife of 57 years, Irene (Baro) Nakonechy of Warren; a son John J. Nakonechy, his wife Jean and their children Lindsey and Jonathan all of Warren and two sisters Jane Keating of Cranford NJ and Helene Gurbicz of Middletown, NJ.
Funeral Services will be held at 9:45 am on Wednesday April 20th , 2005 at Higgins Home for Funerals 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung NJ 07069 followed by a 10:30 am funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Mount R.C. Church in Warren and interment at Resurrection Cemetery in Piscataway. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm.
