Obituary of Herbert Van Blarcum

Herbert Van Blarcum, age 72, died on Thursday, April 28th at his home in Warren. He was born in Newark and was a longtime Warren resident. Mr. Van Blarcum was a graduate of the Class of 1950 of the West Side High School in Newark. He served in the Army during the Korean War. Before his retirement, Mr. Van Blarcum was a Vice President of Legg Mason in New York City. He was a member of the Corporate Bond Traders Club of New York and a member of the Stock Traders Association of New York (STANY). For over 42 years, Mr. Van Blarcum was a dedicated member of the Mount Horeb Methodist Church in Warren. He served as Lay Leader, chaired the Finance Committee, was a member of the New Educational Building Committee and was Superintendent and Teacher of the Sunday School Program. Mr. Van Blarcum was formerly involved with the local Cub Scouts and the Girls Softball League. He is predeceased by his parents, Edward O. Van Blarcum and Louise (Frantz) Van Blarcum and by his son-in-law, Alan Gutwillig. Surviving are his beloved wife of 48 years, Evelyn Halberts Van Blarcum; his son, David Van Blarcum and his wife Linda of Piscataway; his daughters, Linda Nelson and her husband Art of Green Brook, Donna Van Blarcum of Sterling, VA, Susan Gutwillig of Hampton and Karen Van Blarcum of High Bridge and his sisters, Kathie Lind of Hazlet and Edna Jacquin of Inverness, FL. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Jennifer Cartelli and her husband Michael, Christopher Van Blarcum, Kara Van Blarcum, Lauren Van Blarcum, Rebecca Nelson, Elizabeth Nelson, Michelle Gutwillig, Brittany Gutwillig, Megan Gutwillig and J. Morgan Van Blarcum. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 2, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at Mt. Horeb Methodist Church followed by interment at the church cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday, May 1st from 2-4 & 7-9 at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his memory may be made to The Mount Horeb Methodist Church Building Fund, 42 Liberty Corner Road, Warren, NJ 07059 or to the American Heart Association, 2550 US Highway 1, North Brunswick, NJ 08902-4301.
