All I can know right now is that John is with his Booker on a wonderful hunt.
I so deeply wish they could have stayed together and with us all, for so much longer.
Donna, Em, Zach, Jay, Joe, Dorothy- I am deeply sad for and with you. It is so very clear, how much love and joy was and will be shared all together by such a deeply special family. John made a life incredibly rich and full with a spirit that was determined and vibrant.
John, you did get my scarf exactly right, just like you said, (and Donna put your wine under the tree)...but i guess you know all that...
My love and prayers are blended with those of so many others, to hold us all.

Dona, Zac, and Emily:
We have been neighbors and friends for years and with that in mind there have been so many times John would help us out. There are so many things that my mom and I can remember about John. For example all the times my mom would call him for help for something at our house. He would come right over. He will be deeply missed by everyone who knows him.
You are in our thoughts and prayer...Everyone who had the honor of knowing John will miss him greatly.
Love always

Dear Mrs Morella & family,
I want express to you and your family, my heart felt condolences and sorrow for your loss. The whole thing is a shock to me. I knew John through my umpire chapter.
Myself and a realtor associate of mine were watching the helicopter activity from afar from our office at Weidel on 206 at the time. We figured it was a traffic accident of some major proportion. When I read the paper the next day, I was shocked to read John's name as one of those injured and immediately got in contact with a great doctor friend of mine here in town to see if he knew of anyone at St Barnabas that could drectly help. He knew 2 critical care physicians there, and was going to contact them at my request. Sadly, by the time that happened, John had passed.
When I first met John at our umpire chapter, I have to admit I was somewhat intimidated, yet I came to find him as a guy with a big heart, straight forward and always willing to listen and help. That is rare in many people in today's world. As a fellow umpire, John was always helpful, encouraging and guiding in my personal development as a high school official and had a very positive impact on me. He was a great umpire role model for all of us. I looked forward to our chapter meeting when John would go over the rules, new and old, and he'd share a few "umpire war stories" regarding a rules clash he had had with a HS coach. He did it sometimes in a very entertaining way.........he had a great sense of humor when it came to that and we'd laugh. He was dedicated to his chapter members and to the kids that played baseball, particulary the safety of the kids. That always impressed me.
I'm grateful to have known, worked, been instructed by, and associated with John and will miss him.
Again, I'm so very sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
I will dedicate my work as an umpire this season to his memory. And I'll always remember his last words to me after one of our meetings when he briefly advised me, looked my straight in the eye and said with a smile......
"just do your best"
Respectfully yours,
Don Simmons

As a fellow Baseball and Softball umpire I have had the pleasure over the past 17 years to work with John at many ballparks throughout the state. He has always been a true professional and a great man to be associated with, both on and off the field.
More importantly, I have been able to call him a true and trusted friend.
I know Donna and all the family members will miss him dearly, as will all of us who have had the pleasure of his presence over the years.
God bless you and God bless John.

To the Morella family,
My deepest sympathy to you and your loved ones. I work at T.C.O.M. and I had the pleasure of speaking to John on a regular basis. He would bring the employees down and always stay and chat for a while about family, friends, trips etc. He truly loved his family and friends. I only knew John a short time, but his sudden passing has truly saddened me. He will be missed.
