Obituary of Leslie W. Buttke

Mr. Leslie W. Buttke, 87, died Tuesday, August 8, 2006 at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield. Born in Wilmot, SD, he resided in North Plainfield since 1945. Prior to retiring, Mr. Buttke was a self-employed carpenter/general contractor, working throughout the central NJ area. A WWII Army Veteran, Mr. Buttke served between 1941 and 1945 with 37 months spent oversees in the European Theatre landing on Omaha Beach during the invasion of Normandy and participating in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of the VFW Storr Richie Post #506, North Plainfield and the Carpenters Union Local #155. His wife, Phyllis A. (Murtha) Buttke predeceased him in July of 2005 and two sisters, Bernice Oltman and Laverna Buttke also predeceased him. Surviving are his son Jeffrey and his wife Rhoda of Kenmore, WA; his daughter, Carol Buttke of North Plainfield; two brothers, Marlen of Milbank, SD and Delton of Corona, SD; two sisters, Luella Buttke of Milbank, SD and Velva Nelling of Eastport, NY; two grandchildren, Heather and Steven Buttke of Kenmore, WA, a niece, Paula DePaolo of Bound Brook and several other nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 12th, at 10:00 am at Church of the Holy Cross, 40 Mercer Avenue, North Plainfield followed by interment at Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains. Visitation will be on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Higgins Home for Funerals, 461 Somerset Street, North Plainfield.
