Obituary of Marjorie Brown
Watchung: Marjorie Ellen Brown, 87, died peacefully with her family at her bedside on Tuesday, September 19, 2006 at Runnells Specialized Hospital in Berkeley Heights, NJ. She was born in San Antonio, Texas and lived most of her early years in New York City, where she met and married the love of her life and husband of 48 years, Robert Brown, who predeceased her in 1989. They were residents of Watchung for 55 years. Known as Maggie to friends, she dedicated her life to her husband and family. An excellent cook, famous for her pecan puff cookies, she loved to entertain friends and neighbors. She volunteered for over 25 years as a nurses aide at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield. Maggie was an enthusiastic supporter of the arts, the American Humane Society and many other charities. She was an avid reader who loved to travel and dance. She and her husband, Bob, founded The Watchung Squares, a popular square dance club. In retirement, they danced and cruised worldwide. Maggie is survived by her daughters: Jane E. Reed and her husband William of Lithia Springs, GA; Alice C. Brown of Lancaster, CA; Elizabeth M. Shemeley and her husband William of Watchung, NJ; and Barbara A. James and her husband Gary of Bristol, VT; her grandchildren: William Reed Jr., John Robert Reed and his wife Mia, Amy Reed, Carmen Marcano, Gewl Padilla, Rae Padilla, Justin Shemeley and his wife Andrea, Michael James, Katherine Shorey and her great-grandchildren: Jacqueline, Alexys, Ava and Parker Jane. The family will be celebrating Maggies life in private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to: The Runnells Foundation, 40 Watchung Way, Berkeley Heights, NJ 07922.
