Obituary of Shirley Lambert

Lawrenceville: Shirley Lambert, born June 13, 1931 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Florence Milteer and William Claypole. She made her transition on Saturday, January 27, 2007 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Hamilton, NJ with her daughters at her side. Shirley was employed by the Plainfield Board of Education for 25 years. She was an extremely active Union representative, serving as the President of the Paraprofessionals Union. Shirley was instrumental in joining the teachers and support staffs unions into one organization, and served as Vice President of the Plainfield Education Association. Shirley enjoyed reading, politics, and an occasional good argument. She enjoyed playing pinnacle and poker, shopping, and prided herself on her appearance. After retiring in 1995, when her health allowed, Shirley enjoyed trips to Atlantic City and Las Vegas, and spending time with family and friends. Over the years, Shirley continually opened her home and heart to many. She was extremely generous and often gave her last. Shirley was witty and tough, honest and sweet, thoughtful and smart, visionary and wise. Shirley was preceded in death by her twin brother William Claypole, Jr., sister Alma Hauffe and brother Oliver Burke, and leaves behind her brothers John F. Burke, Ernest Burke and Jimmy Burke. Shirley will be greatly missed by her daughters, Terri Jones and Traci Hall, son-in-laws Keith Jones and Vince Hall, grandchildren Vandy and Jade Hall, Tyler and Aaron Jones, her brothers and sisters-in-laws, nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. The funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 1st at 12 noon in the Higgins Home for Funerals, 209 West 8th Street, Plainfield. Cremation will be private. Visitation will be on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 12 noon.
