I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength, and I stand and watch until she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sun and sky come down to mingle with each other. Then someone at my side says, "There she goes!"
Gone where? Gone from my sight - that is all. She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side and just as able to bear her load of living freight to the places of destination.
Her diminished size is in me, not in her. And just at the moment when someone at my side says, "There she goes!", there are other eyes watching her coming and other voices ready to take up the glad shout, "Here she comes!"

In Memory of My
Dearest Mother
"The Song of the River"
The snow melts on the
mountain,
And the water runs down to
the spring,
And the spring, in a turbulent
fountain,
With a song of youth to sing,
Runs down to the riotous
river,
And the river flows to the
sea,
And the water again
Goes back in rain
To the hills where it used
to be.
And I wonder of life's deep
mystery
Isn't much like the rain and
the snow
Returning through all eternity
To the places it used to know.
For life was born on the
lofty heights
And flows in a laughing
stream,
To the river below
Whose onward flow
Ends in a peaceful dream.
And so at last,
When our life has passed
And the river has run its
course,
It again goes back,
O'er the selfsame track,
To the mountain which was
its source.
So why prize life
Or why fear death,
Or dread what is to be?
The river ran
Its allotted span
Till it reached the silent
sea.
Then the water harked back
To the mountain-top
To begin its course once more.
So we shall run
The course begun
Till we reach the silent
shore.
Then revisit earth
In a pure rebirth
From the heart of the virgin
snow.
So don't ask why
We live or die,
Or wither, or when we go,
Or wonder about the
mysteries
That only God may know.
--W.R. Hearst

A remarkable women whose diminutive size was no indication of her incredible strength of character. As a teenager, Theresa was always ready to welcome me into her home. My fondest memory is of how comfortable I always felt when there with Elaine and her parents. That same feeling continued when I saw Theresa many years later after finally reconnecting with Elaine after way too long. She really was such a special woman.

Although the memories I have of Grandmother are few the ones I do still cling to are simply a treasure to me.
Last of the greatest generation she always appeared to have a golden glow. My memories of Grandmother
and Grandfather will always be some of my most cherished. I also will cherish my last phone conversations
with Grandmother that I made it a point to get some of her old memories of life in the early years.
Of Gene and Teresa dancing to Glen Miller
and meeting for pizza at Pepes. I know she is now by Grandfathers side and
talking in french of the front porch about what I could never understand but I always wish I did know.
To my Auntie Elaine I thank you for making her last years as comfortable as could be. My condolences
go out to all the Theroux family. Its is truly a end on an era and what I hope to be a blessed beginning
for all of us.
