“Showing the Way”
A stranger when we met you took the time to say “hello”
And openly offered your help when I lost which way to go
You’d call on the phone just to wish me a good day
And I’d make you laugh like no one else could do or say
We talked about how I would live someday in Ireland
You would have a country cottage with your English gentleman
You showed me what was bad, an every time it would make me sad
You showed me what was good, like a faun by a stream in the woods
I told you things I had never told anyone else before
And you never judged me nor ever closed the door
You had an angelic presence that was thoughtful, pure and kind
And your gentle calming voice would always sooth my mind
But most of all you showed me how simple life can be
And that was my friend,
my friend… Mary.
